The Korean Cultural Center Los Angeles (Wijin Park, Director) and Korean traditional music (Gugak) artist, Seo-Yoon Jang present a special online project, English Gugak Series 'Korean Traditional Music 101: Sound of Korea' Ep 9. Gayageum Byeongchang on Wednesday, January 12, 2022 on the KCCLA YouTube channel.
The ninth episode is 'Gayageum Byeongchang.' Byeongchang means ‘to sing together’. Parts of pansori, danga, or folk songs are performed as Gayageum Byeongchang. In the performance Gayageum follows the melodic line and fills the gap in between the melody and at times gives a prelude or interludes. A lot of the songs of Gayageum Byeongchang comes from famous pansori parts because in the old days it was usually performed by pansori singers. They would sing the songs that they love with Gayageum.
