Since 2008, Korean Cultural Center Los Angeles has organized The Korean Cultural Experience Workshop for LAPD on a regular basis, with more than 1,900 police officers in Los Angeles having participated in 48 workshops as of February 2023.
The workshop is held five times a year for 30-40 participating officers each time, with a variety of lectures on topics such as “Understanding Korea’s Past and Present,” “Overview of Korean American History and Community,” “Protecting and Serving the Korean American Community,” and “Understanding Korean Society,” as well as a range of cultural experiences such as tasting Korean food, enjoying a traditional music performance, and watching a Taekwondo demonstration.
This workshop has helped police officers in the Los Angeles County region to broaden their understanding of Korean culture and Korean American society while providing an
opportunity for Korean Americans to be better understood by law enforcement officers.
