Since 2008, Korean Cultural Center Los Angeles has organized The Korean Culture Experience Workshop for LAPD on a regular basis, with more than 2,000 police officers in Los Angeles having participated in 52 workshops as of February 2024.
The workshop is held five times a year for 30-40 participating officers each time, with a variety of lectures on topics such as “Korean History, Past and Present,” “Understanding Korean Society,” “Overview of Korean American History and Community,” and “Post-LA Uprising Transformations” as well as a range of cultural experiences such as tasting Korean food, enjoying a traditional music performance, and watching a Taekwondo demonstration.
This workshop has helped police officers in the Los Angeles County region to broaden their understanding of Korean culture and Korean American society while providing an opportunity for Korean Americans to be better understood by law enforcement officer
