ONLINE
The Korean Cultural Center Los Angeles (Wijin Park, Director) present a special online project, ‘Oh! Pansori' series every second and fourth Wednesday of February and March on the KCCLA YouTube channel.
Pansori is a genre of musical storytelling performed by a vocalist and a drummer. This popular tradition, characterized by expressive singing, stylized speech, a repertory of narratives and gesture, embraces both elite and folk culture. The last episode of series is about 'Pansori Balim and Chuimsae.’ Balim refers to the Pansori singer's gestures and body movements which to help to make a performance more understandable and enjoyable for the audience. Chiuimsae comes from either Gosu(Drummer) or audience. It is an impromptu act which helps to make the Pansori singer’s performance more active and vivid.
‘Oh! Pansori' series is a new series made by Namwon National Gugak Center to introduce Korean vocal genres ‘Pansori.’ Subscribe for more episodes to be brought to you every other week.
