Since 2008, the Korean Cultural Center Los
Angeles (KCCLA) has organized the “Korean
Culture Experience Workshop for the LAPD”
as part of its Expert Group Special Lecture Series. More than 2,100 Los Angeles
police officers have participated in 57 workshops.
The workshop is held four to five times
annually and offers LA County police officers the opportunity to engage in a
variety of educational and cultural activities. These include lectures on
topics such as “Korean
History: Past and Present,” “Overview
of Korean American History and Community,”
and “Understanding
Korean Society and Culture.”
Participants also experience Korean culture through traditional food tastings
and Taekwondo demonstrations.
This workshop has played a significant role
in deepening police officers' understanding of both Korean culture and the
Korean American community. It has also served as a valuable platform for
fostering mutual understanding and strengthening relationships between law
enforcement and Korean American residents in the Los Angeles area.
