The Korean Cultural Center Los Anegeles (Director Jeong Sang-won) announced that it will hold a screening of the National Dance Company's repertoire in collaboration with the San Diego Central Library (Director Misty Jones) on October 26 at 12 PM, in the auditorium and outdoor terrace on the first floor of the San Diego Library. The event will also feature traditional cultural activities, including Hanbok (traditional Korean clothing) and Hangeul (Korean alphabet).
This event is organized to celebrate Hanbok Day in California (October 21) and aims to showcase the elegance, charm, and beauty of hanbok to the local community through performing arts content and hanbok experience activities. The piece 'Scent of Ink' performed by the National Dance Company, premiered in 2013 and represents the noble spirit of the scholar through four motifs: plum blossoms, orchids, chrysanthemums, and bamboo. The work is expressed in a dance that captures the refined spirit of the scholar, akin to a traditional ink wash painting. It has received acclaim for effectively showcasing the elegance of Korean performing arts and hanbok through the exceptional stage direction of renowned designer Jeong Gu-ho, establishing it as a key repertoire of the National Theater.
Following the screening, there will be activities such as a Hanbok experience, Hangeul calligraphy, and Hanbok craft workshops for children, allowing San Diego residents to engage with Korean traditional culture firsthand.
The screening of at the San Diego Library is a free event and open to everyone.
