Petition for Taekwondo Day

Designation of Taekwondo Day in California

Do you want to see Taekwondo officially recognized across California as a sport enjoyed by people of all ages and backgrounds? Please help us designate September 4 as Taekwondo Day in recognition of the merits of Taekwondo and the rich diverse cultural heritage that the sport of Taekwondo represents in California’s multi-ethnic communities with wide-ranging martial arts practices.

Americans first became acquainted with Taekwondo in the 1940s, and the first Taekwondo studios opened in the US in 1962. Since then, it has become a popular martial art among adults and children throughout America.

California Assembly members Sharon Quirk-Silva (65th District) and Steven Choi (who is Korean American and represents the 68th District) are co-sponsoring Assembly Concurrent Resolution 1 (ACR1) to enact September 4th annually as Taekwondo Day.

In order for the resolution to receive the final approval of the State Assembly and the State Senate, a large number of supporting signatures are needed from residents across California.

The Korean Cultural Center Los Angeles (Director, Park Wijin) has created a website to publicize ACR1 and to help gather supporting signatures. KCCLA will gather and sort the signed petitions and deliver them to the State Assembly, so please follow the procedures below:

Please help us in this worthy endeavor to establish Taekwondo Day in California!

Thank you.
