The Korean Cultural Center Los Angeles (Wijin Park, Director) and Korean traditional music (Gugak) artist, Seo-Yoon Jang present a special online project, English Gugak Series 'Korean Traditional Music 101: Sound of Korea' Ep 5. Ajaeng on Wednesday, November 10, 2021 on the KCCLA YouTube channel.
The fifth episode is 'Ajaeng' which has 7 silk strings that are played with a wooden bow strung with horsehair. The size is a bit shorter and thicker than Gayageum. Traditionally, Ajaeng was divided as a wind instrument because it was grouped by its function. Front plate of the body is made of paulownia wood and the back plate is made of chestnut wood. Strings are held on movable bridges called anjok that hold strings in place and are also used to tune. Ajaeng is known for its vivid and dramatic sound.?
