[July 10 (Thu) 7:00 PM: National Dance Company of Korea's 'MONGYUDOWONMU' Screening-Dreaming of Journey to the Peach Blossom Land Dance]
Duration: 48 minutes

The Korean Cultural Center Los Angeles (KCCLA), led by Director Haedon Lee, announced that it will host a screening of the National Dance Company of Korea’s MONGYUDOWONMU (Dreaming of Journey to the Peach Blossom Land Dance) on Thursday, July 10, as part of the final installment of the "Performing Arts Content Screening- National Theater Series."

MONGYUDOWONMU (choreographed by Jinyeob Cha) is inspired by the 15th-century painting Dream Journey to the Peach Blossom Land by Korean artist An Gyeon. The painting, completed in 1447 (the 29th year of King Sejong’s reign), depicts the dream of Prince Anpyeong wandering through an idealized peach blossom paradise. After hearing the prince’s description, An Gyeon completed the artwork in just three days, to which the prince added an inscription.

The performance brings to life the journey from the struggles of the real world to the idyllic Peach Blossom Land through choreography, music, and mise-en-scene. It draws creative inspiration from the sinuous lines of Korea's mountains as depicted in the painting. The onomatopoeic term "gubi-gubi" (meaning "winding" or "meandering") conveys not only the terrain's physical undulations but also the trials of human life and the resilience required to overcome them. In MONGYUDOWONMU, nine dancers of the National Dance Company express this narrative, seamlessly integrating media art, music, stage design, and costumes to create a sublime visual and kinetic experience. The 15th-century aesthetic sensibilities of An Gyeon's landscape painting are reimagined in a contemporary context, showcasing modern elegance and artistry.

The screening is free, but advance reservations are required. Reservations can be made on the KCCLA website at www.kccla.org. For inquiries, contact Kelly at kelly@kccla.org or call (323) 936-7141.
