  The Korean Cultural Center Los Angeles (Director: Haedon Lee) announced that, in collaboration with Jeong Arts & Culture, it will host the "Celebrating the 80th Anniversary of Korean National Liberation: Mastery of Korean Performing Arts" at Zipper Hall, Colburn School, on July 30 at 7:00pm.

This event aims to promote Korean traditional arts on the global stage by featuring a special collaborative performance by renowned masters of Korean traditional music and dance. The event will take place in Los Angeles then Hawaii, showcasing approximately 20 artists.


The performance will be directed by Master Kyung-man Choi, the holder of Seoul City’s Intangible Heritage Samhyeonyukgak. The artistic directors include Master Young-jae Kim, holder of the National Intangible Heritage Geomungo Sanjo and recipient of Korea’s Cultural and Arts Award. And Master Young-shin Lee, holder of the National Intangible Heritage Gayageum Sanjo and Byeongchang. Choreography will be directed by Master Seung-mi Yang, president of the Preservation Society of Hamgyeong-do Sword Dance.

Additional performers include Master Ji-sook Yoo, artistic director of the National Gugak Center’s Folk Music Group; Master Young-hoon Lee, department head at Namyejeong Arts Practical College; the percussion group Mua; and the Hyangdugye Nori Preservation Society. The event will also feature narration by Master Hyung-hwan Lee, vice president of Chung-ang University’s Da Vinci Campus and holder of the National Intangible Heritage Geomungo Sanjo, who will provide in-depth explanations of the traditional arts for the audience. 

The program will include diverse performances such as "Hojok Pungnyu," showcasing the vibrant and dynamic sounds of the Taepyeongso (a traditional Korean wind instrument) typical of the Seoul-Gyeonggi region; "Gang Seonyeong Style Taepyeongmu," known for its dynamic footwork; "Seodo Sori," a traditional vocal genre from the Pyeongan and Hwanghae provinces; "Haegeum Yeongok," exploring the elegance of the two-stringed fiddle; "Gayageum Byeongchang," performed by a holder of National Intangible Heritage; "Gumbe Taryeong and Tujeonpuri," lively folk songs from the Seodo region; "Jinswe Dance," combining the rhythms of Kkwaenggwari (a small gong) and dance movements; and a Samulnori finale, blending percussion and vibrant energy.
